A few years ago I made this flow chart of which Mastodon posts end up in which timelines!
So, you can see how each instance will have a different local timeline, and even a slightly different federated timeline - and you can see why the federated timeline moves so much faster than the local one, too.
This is why it's important to boost good posts and use hashtags - the fediverse is fragmented and harder to search by nature.
Was looking around the code for the program pmap, especially around how it works out what to display for shared memory segments.
You allocate an shm using the system call shmget() which if successful returns an ID.
What I didn't know is this ID appears in the /proc/<PID>/maps file which is displayed by pmap.
$ pmap $TESTPID | grep shmid
00007fcd27753000 4K r--s- [ shmid=0x8031 ]
So in my test program shmget() would have returned 0x8031
It's been a while I posted an #introduction - if I ever have, come to think of it. I'm just another random guy on the internet with a passion for #keyboards (of the mechanical kind), and #firmware in particular. I work for Keyboard.io, hacking on #Kaleidoscope and #Chrysalis.
I'm also known for dabbling in weird stuff, like putting #hy in production. I'm a #lisp (#clojure before, #fennel lately) and #debian fan, living in #emacs.
That's the kind of things I post about, and #parenting, and...
Hi, I'm Aurynn. I run cloudisland.nz, an instance entirely hosted in New Zealand, on the Catalyst Cloud OpenStack cloud!
Cloud Island is a general-purpose instance, with a lot of really cool folks doing really cool things.
I toot mostly about cloud technology as I work on the Cloud Island infrastructure, general life, and sometimes sociology.
I am transgender. Trans rights are human rights.
Welcome!

The sorcerer gestured broadly, barely able to distinguish each and every rabbit filling his inner sanctum.
"I send you out for eggs, you fail to return in a timely manner, and on the third day I wake up to this?"
Though sheepish, his apprentice asked, "You noticed I was absent yet sent no search parties?"
"Replacing you would be less trouble."
"I thought you'd say that," sighed the apprentice, the rabbits turning and baring their fangs.

The troll weighed her options - the North Bridge was a bit rickety but the goat traffic was reasonably high. One the other hand, the sturdier South Bridge had better views but considerably more humans, who were always some kind of trouble.
She looked up at her parents.
"Is there a third option," she asked hopefully.
They sighed, silently wishing she hadn't asked.
But they loved her, so opened the world map, showing her many more options.
